KAL THERM (W. Nr. 1.2714/56NiCrMoV7)
- KAL THERM is nickel chromium molybdenum hot work tool steel.
- Exhibits high compact toughness and good resistance to softening at elevated temperature.
- High nickel content imparts toughness and through hardening in large section thickness.
- Good resistance to thermal shocks and fatigue cracking.
Applications

Heat Treatment
Preheating | Heating at the rate of less than 160° C/h to 650° C for equalization. Raise the temperature to 815-870° C. |
Annealing | Annealing at a temperature in between 685-710°C results in hardness levels of <= HB 250. |
Stress relieving | Stress relieving should be carried out by heating to 645°C, holding for at least 1 hour, followed by air cooling. |
Hardening | Harden from a temperature of 835-870°C followed by oil quenching. Quench hardness -58.5 HRC. Harden from a temperature of 835-895°C followed by air cooling. Quench hardness -56.5 HRC. |
Tempering | Tempering can be carried out at various temperatures to achieve different properties. |

Machinability
Machinability of KAL THERM ranges from medium to high. Machining after hardening tempering should be avoided and should be limited to finish machining only.
Forming
KAL THERM has good ductility and may be formed by conventional means i.e. machining and forging.
Forging
Hot forging temperature 1050 – 850 °C.
Welding
This alloy is readily weldable by conventional methods.
Supply Condition
Spheroidized Annealed, hardened and tempered or as per customer requirement.
